Making Your Home More Eco Friendly
Table of Contents
Whilst most homes do not produce masses of greenhouse gases, it is still beneficial to try and make your home as eco friendly as possible. Whilst this may seem like a daunting task at first glance, there are actually very many things that you can do in order to make your home a more eco friendly space.
Use eco friendly cleaning products
Lots of the cleaning products that you buy from the store actually contain lots of different chemicals in them that are not only harmful to yourself but also to the wider environment. Inevitably, some of these make their way into our water systems and soil, causing harmful damage to plants and animals in the wild. This is why you should opt for using a surface cleaner that does not contain any ingredients that are synthetic or potentially harmful.
Install solar panels
By investing in some sort of renewable energy source for the purpose of generating electricity to use within your property, you can really make your home so much more eco friendly. For instance, consider buying some solar panels and have them installed onto the roof of your home. These work by using the energy that is given off by the sun, capturing this, and then turning it into electricity. Alternatively, if you cannot afford to invest in expensive kit such as solar panels then instead, switch your energy provider to one that produces its energy through green resources, such as wind and solar, rather than through the burning of fossil fuels.
Use eco friendly toilet paper
In order to produce toilet paper, it requires the chopping down of a large number of trees. In fact 17 full sized trees must be felled and over 90,000 litres of water used in order to produce just one tonne of toilet paper. On average, a normal adult person uses about one hundred rolls of toilet paper over the course of a single year. Although toilet paper is of course absolutely necessary, by opting to use a toilet paper that is made out of bamboo, it is coming from a much more sustainable source, given the fact that the plant grows so quickly – approximately 39 inches (99 centimeters) in the space of 24 hours.
Change heating sources
By utilising a heating source that uses renewable fuel, your home can become much more eco friendly. Most boilers in people’s homes use finite resources, such as oil and gas, in order to generate the heat given off. However, some boilers can be changed so that they work by using the more sustainable option of biomass. Heat pumps are equally as effective within the home also.
Whilst there are many other things that you can do around your home in order to make it more eco friendly, the above are some of the best ways to do so. Even if you adopt just one of these changes, it will make a huge difference to the health of the planet and those living on it IITSWEB.
